몇가지 메이저 스포츠중에서 팀스포츠에 속하는 특성을 많이 가지는 것이 무엇이냐고 묻는다면 아마도.. 그 답은 야구일 겁니다.

작전이라는 것이 가장 명확하게 책임소재를 동반하고 결과를 보여주는 스포츠도 역시 야구이기 때문이죠.

그렇기 때문에 야구가 온전히 스탯과 개인의 차별화된 성적에 의해 평가되어지면서도 또한 가장 팀웍을 강조하는 몇가지 미신들이 강하게 지배하는 특성을 보여주기도 하는 복잡성을 내포한 스포츠라는 사실에 모두 동의해야 할겁니다.

그래서.. 야구가 매력이 있는거고...이 늙은 나이가 되도록 여전히 이렇게 게시판을 돌아다니며 야구 얘기에 게걸스럽게 메달리고 있는지도 모르구요..


오늘 보스톤이 그 의심스러운 스타터 멘도자를 내세워서 제이스를 7대1로 따돌리고 시리즈 스윕을 이뤄서 무척 기쁩니다.

그 시리즈 스윕의 삼분지 이인 두경기가 1점차 박빙의 승부였고 그 승부의 종점에 김병현선수의 마무리가 큰 비중을 차지하고 있기에 더 뿌듯한 감도 있구요..


그런데...

어제 그 두번째 세이브상황에서의 델가도와의 승부에서..

그래디가 걸어나왔죠.. 아무도 그 당시 김과 미라벨리 그리고 그래디 사이에 어떤 말이 오갔는지 정확히 말하지 않습니다.

어쩌면 그래디는 델가도를 걸르라고 지시했을지도 모릅니다.

병현이는 연시 고개를 끄떡이고 있었는데.. 아아.. 젠장할.. 그래디가 하는 말을 제대로 알아들었는데도 자신의 고집대로 승부를 하고 나중에 그래디의 말을 잘 못알아 들었다고 했을지도 모른다는 생각도 들고..


어쨌든 델가도를 멋지게 삼진으로 돌려세웠으니 그것으로 된거 아닌가..? 라고 하기에는 앞서 언급한대로 야구의 특성이 팀스포츠적 측면이 강하기에..

또 미국에서 스콰드 플레이의 경우 리더의 결정에 복종하는 것이 얼마나 자연스럽고 당연한 것인지 잘 아는 사람으로 만약 병현이 한국에서와 같이 그런 자신의 개인적 고집을 내세워 그 관행을 거슬른건 아닌지..


사실 걱정이 많이 되네요.

양놈들.. 스콰드 즉 팀으로서 어떤 임부를 수행할땐 우리 조선시대의 권위주의 보다 훨씬 더한 리더의 권위를 인정합니다.

야구에서 감독의 결정 또한 그 범주에 속하는 것으로 치구요..

후에 그래디나 미라벨리의 인터뷰를 자세히 들여다보면 병현을 위해 약간은 립써비스를 하고있다는 느낌을 온전히 지워버릴 수도 없고..

병현이가 아리조나에서 브렌리와 몇번 그런일을 겪었던 전력도 뇌리에서 떠나지 않고..

아아.. 젠장할 나이들면 걱정만 느는건지요..

탈렌트를 가진 선수로서 자신의 guts를 보여주는 것과 팀의 승부가 걸린 긴박한 상황에서 감독의 지시를 거부하는 것과는 많은 차이가 있습니다.

그 차이를 병현이가 슬기롭게 조율해 나갈 수 있다면 정말 좋겠는데..

비행기로 열여섯시간 이상 떨어진 곳에 살고있는 중늙은이는 그저.. 달리 할게 없네요..

보스톤 양놈들은 혹시 어찌 생각하고 있을까..? 뭐 이런 걱정 이외에는요..

병현이가 팀플레이로서의 야구에서도 돋보이는 선수가 되길 바라는것은 어쩌면 지나친 것일지도.. 휴우...

This AB isn't over yet, so I'm not saying this after the fact. But WHAT in the world is Grady doing? Why are they pitching to Delgado instead of walking him to set up a possible double play. Is this that hard to figure out? WALK the lead leader in RBI and HR.
His stupidity continues to amaze me each day. First deciding not to start Pedro against NY during the next series, and now this!

지금 타석이 아직 끝나지 않았다. 그래서 결과를 보고 얘기하는 거 아닌데.. 도데체 그래디는 무슨 생각을 하면서 저따위 짓을 하고있는가..? 왜 델가도를 걸려서 더블플레이가 가능한 상황으로 가져가지 않고 정면대결을 하려하냔 말이다? 그게 그렇게 생각해내기 어려운 거란 말인가? 타점과 홈런에서 리그 선두를 달리는 상대를 걸르는거 말이다.
빌어먹을 이친구의 어리석음은 매일같이 나를 놀래게 하네... 먼저는 뉴욕과의 다음 시리즈에 페드로를 등판시키지 않을거라는 결정으로.. 그리고 지금 이것으로..

Kim got the K, but I'm standing by my original thought. That was NOT a smart managerial move at all.
Let's see. Face Delgado with 1st base open as the winning run even though he's the league leader in HR and RBI. Or walk him and face the ever dangerous Howie Clark? Hmm. Yeah. Tough one Grady. I can see how you could get that one wrong. Thank Kim for the K, and saving your job.

김이 결국은 삼진으로 잡아냈지.. 하지만 나는 내 원래의 생각에서 말하는건데.. 그렇게 하는건 정말 전혀 스마트한 감독의 결정이라고 생각하지 않아.
자 보자구.. 그가 비록 홈런과 타점에서 리그선두일지라도 1루가 비어있는 상황인데도 패전을 각오하고 그와 승부하는 것과 아니면 그를 걸르고 조금은 덜 위험한 호위 클락하고 승부하는것과.. 흠.. 그래.. 그래디에겐 정말 힘든 결정이었겠지.
네가 그것이 잘못된 것이라고 생각할 수 있다는 점 충분히 알겠어...
다행히도 김이 삼진을 잡아냈으니.. 그래디를 구한 셈이지..

그래디는 오늘 3타수 3안타를 기록한 카탈라노토 타석에서도 같은 짓을 했지. 결과? 결국 2점 홈런 한방에 제이스에게 7-3의 리드를 안겼잖아..

How is the witch hunt going?
Walking the winning run is always a tough decision to make. It was a flip a coin situation and Grady's gamble paid off. In that exact situation there was no 'right' solution.

I agree with that. Normally I'd say no, don't walk him. But my god! It's Delgado. Walk him, set up for a hopeful double play and face Howie Clark.

In my opinion, it was sort of a good idea. I think Little had in mind that in Arizona, Kim was not in good term with Brenly because Brenly always wanted to walk big name hitters (Bonds, etc..) So Kim was very uncomfortable, where the manager didn't trust the closer... I think Little took a gamble to back his closer with some confidence. (really, Kim can strike out the side with 9 pitches) Evidently, he did get 3Ks although Delgado put up a good fight. I think it is important that Little actually put his confidence on Kim.

내 생각엔 말이야.. 그것도 괜찮은 생각인거 같아. 내생각엔.. 리틀이 아마도 아리조나에서 킴이 브렌리와 별로 좋지 않았던 것이 바로 브렌리가 항상 대형타자들(본즈나..뭐 그런놈들..)을 걸르도록 지시했기 때문이었고 감독이 클로저를 믿지않는것 때문에 킴이 항상 불편해 했다는 생각을 염두에 두었던거 같아. 내 생각엔 리틀이 도박을 무릅쓰고라도 자신의 클로저를 믿어본거 같아.(사실 킴은 정말 9개의 투구로 나머지들을 모두 삼진잡을 수 있는 피처거든) 명백히, 그는 델가도가 정말 타석에서 혼신을 다해 덤벼들었지만 3개의 삼진을 잡아내고 말았지. 나는 리틀감독이 자신의 클로저로서 김을 신뢰하게 되었다는것이 중요한거 같아.

Grady tried to say after the game that Kim pitched him careful, but Eck is wigging out saying that Kim was challenging Delgado big time and Grady probably TOLD him to work around him, but Kim didn't do it

게임 후에 브래디는 말했지. 킴에게 델가도에게 조심해서 던지라고 했다고. 그러나 베리텍은 흥분해서 말하더라고.. 킴은 정말 델가도를 잡으려고 덤볐다고. 그래디는 아마도 김에게 좋은 볼 주지말고 던져서 걸러도 괜찮다고 말했지만 킴은 그말을 따르지 않았어.

All cynicism aside, why, why, why do you people insist on defending this mo ron? Great he got away with one tonight, much thanks to a generous call from an umpire. Let's see that makes him like 1 for 30. He absolutely stinks. And now he's advertising to the general public our intentions for a series that's 2 weeks away. He's is pathetic and has done nothing to change that opinion today. I have never wished for harm to come to any other human being, but I wouldn't shed any tears if he was abducted by aliens tomorrow. What exactly did he get away with? Pitching to Delgado? That worked, and it had nothing to do with the umpire. Try reconstructing that inning with a walk to Delgado and see how you like that.

그가 정확히 오늘밤 뭘 피해갔는데? 델가도에게 던지게한거? 그거 완전히 통했지. 그건 심판의 판정하곤 아무 상관없는 것이었어. 델가도를 그 순간에 걸러보내고 그다음 뭐가 어떻게 될건지 한번 그 이닝을 머리속으로 상상해 보라구.

It worked tonight. It has failed in at least 4 or 5 other games that I can think of right off the top of my head. I guess if you want to play it by the book without regard fro the fact that guy hitting has already had 95, that's 9-5 RBI's!!!!!!, then great. He was lucky, it worked and good for him. No he can get the heck out of Boston and go back to Mayberry or wherever it is he lives.

오늘밤엔 확실히 통했어. 하지만 적어도 언뜻 머리에 떠오르는 지난 통하지 않았던 게임은 적어도 네다섯은 되는걸? 내 생각엔 네가 상대가 벌써 95타점이나 친 놈이라는 사실을 무시한채 책대로 플레이하기를 원한다면, 좋아. 그는 오늘 운이 좋았어. 오늘밤 통했고 다행이지만. 제길 그친구 보스톤을 떠나서 메이베리든 어디든 자신이 살던곳으로 꺼져버리란 말이야.

Delgado is hitting .430 with risp. As good as that is, it means he is more likely to make an out than get a hit.
You keep saying he got away with it. What did he get away with? Would there have been a better outcome if he had walked Delgado?

델가도는 스코어링 포지션에 주자를 두고 .430을 치고있었어. 곧이 곧대로 받아들여도 그건 안타를 치기보단 아웃당할 확율이 더 크다는걸 의미하잖아.
너는 계속 그래디가 그걸 피해냈다고 하지만 도데체 뭘 피해갔는데? 델가도를 걸렀으면 정말 보다 좋은 결과가 있었을까?

I just took a stroll over to the Blue Jays board-didn't post or anything, just took a peek and they are bashing their manager left and right. I aslo notice that the Yankee fans bash Joe Torre from time to time. I know the Houston Astros bash their manager. Arizona Diamondbacks bash theirs. Most f teams fans do.Maybe fans need a scapegoat when the team they root for loses. I don't always like the moves Grady makes either. Sometimes he does make good ones though that work out and sometimes he makes moves that don't or ones that work out but leave you scratching your head but it seems no matter what he does some people are going to blame him-sometimes they blame him for things that he has no control over in my opinion. I wasn't too crazy about him putting Brandon Lyon in this situationm tonight but it worked out.

내가 오늘밤 블루제이스 게시판에 가봤는데.. 물론 아무것도 게시하거나 하진 않았고.. 그냥 살짝 봤는데.. 그들은 지금 자신들의 감독을 이리저리 몰아치고 있더군.
그리고 양키팬들도 항상 조토레를 두들겨대지. 휴스톤 애스트로스도 마찬가지고 아리조나 디백스도 역시. 그래.. 팬들이란 항상 자신들이 응원하는 팀이 지면 희생양이 필요한거야. 나도 그래디가 하는 결정들마다 다 찬성하는건 아냐. 그는 어떤때는 정말 제대로된 결정으로 좋은 결과를 낳는가 하면 그렇지 않을때도 있지. 하지만 그가 어떤 결정을 하던 그를 비난할 사람들은 존재하게 되어 있어. 자신의 의견대로 콘트롤하지 않으면 어떤경우에도 그를 비난하는거지. 나는 정말 그가 오늘밤 브랜던을 마운드에 올렸을때 미칠지경이었지만, 오늘밤은 잘 통했잖아.

What Kim asked for tonight was trust. He basically said to Grady, you made me the closer, now let me do my job. And he did. Brilliantly! What he got was confidence. What we get as a result may be the AL East and then the World, as in Series. This guy needs to get back into Closer mode and experience like this is what will make that happen. And when he does, watch it trickle down to the rest of the pen.

Yep, Kim pretty much refused to pitch around Delgado as Grady asked. It was scary, but maybe it's what makes Kim tick. Glad it worked out. O_o

엡. 킴은 그래디의 요구에도 불구하고 확실히 델가도에게 피해가는 피칭을 하기를 거부했어. 그건 정말 살벌했지. 하지만 어쩌면 그것이 킴이 행동하는 양식일지도 몰라.

I'll have to depart from my normal theme and defend Grady on this one. It was the right move to pitch to Delgado, plus it was a gutsy move. Grady played the by the book, but he also made a tough decision. This is because the Thome scenario had to have been going through his mind.
This probably tempted Grady to want to pitch around Delgado (If for nothing else than to avoid criticism later). But, Grady had balls, and he let Kim pitch to Delgado. I felt this was the right move even before the out. I was saying to myself "F- yeah, Grady. Let Kim pitch to Delgado and let Delgado see what Kim's got." Good move, Grady.

나는 일반적인 주제에서 그만 벗어나야겠어 그리고 그문제에 대해 그래디를 방어할 수 밖에 없어. 델가도에게 정면승부하게 한건 잘한 짓이야 게다가 그건 강단이 있는 결정이잖아. 그래디는 책대로 승부했지만 한편으론 정말 힘든 결정을 한거야. 어쩌면 토미의 경우가 그의 마음을 꿰둟었기 때문에 더욱 힘들었겠지.
그래서 아마 델가도에게 유인구를 던지게 하고싶은 마음이 훨씬 더 강했겠지.
하지만 그래디는 깡다구가 있었다구. 그는 킴에게 델가도와 승부하게 했지. 나는 그가 아웃되기 전에 이미 이건 옳은 결정이라고 느꼈어. 나는 스스로 말했지. "이런 쓰바.. 그래디. 그래 킴에게 델가도하고 한판 붙으라고 해. 델가도에게 킴이 어떤걸 가지고 있는지 한번 보여주라구.. 좋아 그래디.."

My initial thought was to walk Delgado, but then I figured, nah let's pitch to him, but very very carefully. I wouldn't have been upset at all if he would have walked on 4 pitches...but obviously very happy that he ended up with the K.

내 처음 생각은 델가도를 걸르는 것이었어. 하지만 곧 느꼈어. 아냐.. 승부하자. 하지만 아주 아주 조심스럽게 말이야. 나는 만약 킴이 그를 공네개로 사구를 허용한다해도 조금도 화나지 않았을거야.. 하지만 정말 행복하게도 그친구 삼진으로 끝냈다구.

People should really stop bashing Grady. He has us 3 games from 1st place. He's more deliberate and consistant in his decision making processes than some of you think. I'm not sure if it was talking about this one at bat, but I'm watching Sports Desk and there's a clip where Mirabelli says about Grady's decision, "Doesn't matter who's coming to the plate, like I said earlier..." "Gary said, 'do you want to face this guy or do you want to walk him and face the next guy?'"

사람들 정말 그래디를 몰아치는걸 중단해야해. 그는 우리에게 선두에 3게임차로 쫒아가게 해줬다구. 그는 너희들중 일부가 생각하는거보다 훨씬 의사결정에 있어서 일관성있고 신중한 사람이야. 만약 이번 타석에서의 결정 하나만 놓고 말하면 나도 모르겠지만.. 스포츠 데스크를 봤는데 거기서 그래디의 결정에 대해 미라벨리가 말하는 클립이 있더군.. " 누가 타석에 들어서든 상관 없어. 내가 전에 말했듯이" 그래디는 말했다는군.. "너 이 친구하고 붙을래? 아니면 걸르고 다음 친구하고 붙을래?"

I totally agree it was a dumb decision. After the fact. He took a stupidly high risk, not just with the outcome of the game but to his career with the Red Sox. Terribly dumb call by Grady!

You don't put the winning run on base period. I'm posting after the fact but when I watched it I had no problem with the call. Your closer is supposed to get out of those problems and he did.
So now we're complaining that I Manager made a move and it worked. Find legit complaints.

역전주자를 내보내지마라, 에 대해서.. 나는 결과가 나온 이후에 게시한 거지만 내가 볼때도 그건 조금도 문제가 없는 결정이었어. 너의 클로저는 당연히 그 문제들을 해결하기위해 나오는거고 그는 해냈다구.
그런데 지금 우리는 감독이 결정을 했고 그게 통했다고 불평하고 있단 말이야..
좀 말이 되는 불평을 찾아보라구..

I also think it was a good idea to have let BK face Delgado.
In fact, I was kinda pissed Grady actually wanted to pitch around him. What kinda message is BK getting? If it was in the playoffs, yeah, I guess I can deal with it. But as a manager, IMO, you gotta see what your newly appointed closer can do before you tell him what to do. How does he handle pressure? Can he work out of a jam? If BK had messed it up, THAT would have given Grady the pretext for other games. But today he shoulda just kept his mouth shut and let BK/Mirabelli decide for themselves.

One thing I know from having watched BK pitch in Arizona and what he says to the Korean media is that BK gets his kicks from facing and K'ing the good batters. He is so pumped to see the good ones that he loses concentration when he faces the bad ones.

BK가 도데체 어떤 종류의 메세지를 받았겠느냐구? 만약 플레이 오프에서였다면..? 그래 그럴수도 있지.. 내 의견으로는 그러나 감독이라면 최근 임명된 자신의 클로저에게 뭘 하라고 말하기전에 먼저 그가 뭘 할수 있는지 봐야하는거 아냐? 그가 긴박한 상황을 어떻게 처리하는지? 그런 위기상황을 벗어날 수 있는지 말이야? 만약 BK가 해내지 못한다면? 그게 바로 그래디에게 다른 경기에서 어떻게 할건지를 알려주는 것이 되니까.. 하지만 오늘밤은 그놈의 입을 닥치고 BK/미라벨리 에게 스스로 알아서 처리하도록 놔뒀어야 한다구.
 
BK가 아리조나에서 피칭할때부터 그리고 한국의 언론에게 말해왔던 것으로 내가 아는 한가지는 BK가 좋은 타자를 삼진으로 잡을때마다 그 키킹을 해왔단 사실이거든. 그는 좋은 타자를 맞이하면 너무 흥분해서 때로는 좀 못한 타자를 상대할때 집중력을 잃곤 했다고 하더라구..

Once again, would there have been a better outcome if they walked Delgado? Little did not jeopardize his career by making a move that is by the book.

Yes, you're always right with hindsight. That's why I posted that BEFORE the play was over so I wouldn't have that luxury. When you're facing the league leader in HR and RBI and he has a chance to end the game, you walk him.
Apparently Grady Little didn't learn a thing from the Thome incident in Philly.

그래, 자신의 가늠자로 보면 항상 옳은 법이지. 그래서 나도 그 상황이 지나기 전에 이말을 한거야. 그래서 난 화려하게 장식되지 않았겠지만.. 홈런과 타점에서 선두인 타자를 맞이해서 만약 그로인해 게임이 끝날 상황이라면 걸러야해.
필라델피아에서의 토미사건에서 리틀감독은 정말 아무것도 배운게 없단 말이야..

Guess you forgot about the Jim Thome situation in Philly too. Same type of situation, Grady didn't walk him and Thome homered.

It뭩 not completely analogous to the Thome ABs against Philly. Thome was facing first Timlin, and then Sheill. He was not going against our closer. I agree with the comments that the move shows confidence in Kim as the closer. That will go a long way down the road this season for Kim to know that his manager has confidence in him getting anyone out in any situation. Part of the reason Lyon had been ineffective before yesterday뭩 game since losing the closer job is because of that lack of confidence in him after one blown save. Hopefully yesterday뭩 performance will help him regain some of the confidence he had prior to that. Timlin, Embree, Lyon, and Kim comprise one heck of a late inning BP.

필리에서의 토미타석의 상황은 정확히 일치하는 상황은 아니야. 토미는 팀린을 처음 대하는거였고 그리고 쉐일도. 그는 우리의 클로저와 맞선 상황도 아니야. 난 클로저로서 킴에게 신뢰를 가져왔다고 하는 말에 동의해. 킴에게 그의 감독이 그에게 신뢰를 가지고 있다는 점은 이번 시즌 내내 가게 될거야. 어떤 상황에서도 어떤 타자든 잡아낼 수 있다는 그 신뢰말이야. 리온이 어제 이전의 게임에서 계속 비효과적으로 던지면서 클로저잡을 잃은 이유도 바로 그 한번의 블론 세이브 이후 신뢰를 잃은 때문이었거든. 어제의 성적으로 그도 그전에 가졌던 자신감을 되찾기를 바래. 팀린 엠브리 리온 그리고 킴은 정말 후반 이닝의 불펜으로 굉장한 것이야.

No not the same situation as Kim was not the pitcher, in neither situation that Thome homered was anyone on base, those are big diferences. Do you think we should intentionally walk sluggers in one run games? No way do I buy into that strategy.
You either believe in putting the tying or winning run on base or you don't. I don't believe in it because if your pitcher is pulling his weight, especially your closer, you should get the results you want.

We got the results we wanted, congrats to Kim and Grady.

킴이 피처가 아니었는데 당연히 같은 상황은 아니었지, 토미가 홈런을 칠때 루에 아무도 없었던 것도 그렇고, 크게 차이가 나지. 1점 승부에서 장거리타자를 반드시 걸러야 한다고 생각하나? 난 절대로 그 전략에 동의 못해.
넌 정말 동점 주자나 혹은 역전주자를 내줘야 한다고 생각하느냐고?
나는 그렇지 않아, 왜냐면 너의 투수가 그의 전력을 다하고 있고 특히 그가 클로저라면 네가 원하는 결과를 얻어내야 해.
